Our Commitment to Building Safe and Compliant Campervans
When choosing a campervan conversion, safety is understandably one of the most important considerations.
At Out and About Campers, we believe that creating a great campervan is about much more than attractive furniture and clever layouts. Every vehicle we build is designed with safety, reliability and long-term durability in mind, which is why we carefully select the products, components and systems that go into every conversion.
Our Approach to Campervan Safety
We understand that some customers specifically look for Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) when researching campervan manufacturers.
Whilst we are currently working towards obtaining WVTA, our commitment to safety does not begin or end with a certification. It is reflected in the decisions we make every day – from the suppliers we partner with to the products we choose and the standards we work to.
Our goal is simple: to build campervans that we would be happy for our own families to travel in.
M1-Tested & TÜV-Approved Campervan Components
Two of the most important safety features in any campervan are the seating system and the pop-top roof.
We use seating systems, swivel bases, pop-top roofs and other key components that have either undergone M1 automotive safety testing or achieved TÜV approval.
M1 testing is a recognised automotive safety standard that assesses whether seating systems can withstand the forces experienced during a collision. TÜV approval is an independent safety certification demonstrating that a product has been tested to recognised engineering and quality standards.
By choosing products that have undergone rigorous testing, we can be confident that the seating systems we install have been designed with occupant safety as a priority.
Professional Campervan Installation Standards
Even the best products are only as good as the way they are installed.
Our team follows documented build processes and quality checks throughout production to ensure every conversion is completed to a high standard. We continually review and improve our manufacturing methods to ensure consistency across every vehicle we build.
Campervan Gas & Electrical Safety
The gas and electrical systems within a campervan are among the most critical aspects of any conversion.
The electrical systems we install are supplied as complete kits by specialist leisure vehicle electrical manufacturer BCA. These systems are designed specifically for use in campervans and are developed and tested to meet applicable UK standards and regulations.
By using a complete, engineered system rather than assembling components from multiple sources, we can ensure compatibility, reliability and consistency across our vehicles.
Gas safety is also an important consideration in every campervan we build. Prior to handover, we carry out checks to verify that the gas system is leak-free and operating as intended. These inspections form part of our wider pre-delivery inspection process, helping to ensure every vehicle is ready for safe and enjoyable use.
Comprehensive Quality Checks
Before any campervan leaves our workshop, it undergoes a detailed pre-delivery inspection.
This process allows us to identify and rectify any issues before handover and ensures that every vehicle meets the standards we expect from an Out and About Campers conversion.
Supporting You After Handover
Safety and reliability do not stop when you drive away.
Every new Out and About Campers conversion is supplied with a two-year conversion warranty, giving customers confidence that we stand behind the quality of our workmanship.
Our Odyssey vehicles are supplied with a six-month warranty, providing additional peace of mind when purchasing a pre-owned vehicle through us.
Looking to the Future
We are committed to continually improving our products, processes and standards.
As part of that commitment, we are actively working towards Whole Vehicle Type Approval. We believe this is a natural progression for the business and another step in our ongoing investment in quality, compliance and customer confidence.
Until then, our focus remains unchanged: building safe, reliable campervans using proven components, quality workmanship and rigorous inspection processes.
Because when it comes to campervans, safety should never be an afterthought.
